Wire

Thickness of wire in these applications is really a matter of taste, we aren’t putting enough current through them to worry too much about gauge sizes. I use 24/0.2 for power lines and 16/0.2 for everything else, but it really depends on what’s available at the time! It’s a good plan to keep different colours in though, there’s nothing worse than making a loom ALL one colour and having to find which wire goes where when something goes wrong! Group same wires the same colours and keep to recognised colour schemes like:

*  +5v  -  RED
*  -5v  -  WHITE
* +12v  -  YELLOW
*  GND  -  BLACK

Spool Of Wire

There is also something called ‘Patch wire’ which is a very thin wire used to repair broken traces on PCBs.
